Ignatius Tsao, political science professor at the State University College at Oneonta, said he has a mission to tell the Chinese government to change their ways. Thursday his visa was approved and he will be able to go.

“I want to ask them to cease further arrests,” said Tsao of 1 Bugbee Rd. in Oneonta. He said he wants Chinese authorities to release jailed students and their supporters, and he’s willing to make the trip in person to let government officials know.

Tsao said by stopping arrests and releasing prisoners, tension will be eased both in intellectual circles and in Chinese society in general. And economic sanctions by other countries also will pressure the Chinese government to be more lenient in settling the political unrest, he said.

Tsao said he isn’t scared about making the trip, even though he doesn’t yet know which government officials he’ll be permitted to see.

The City of Oneonta may someday find itself behind the eight ball should any snafu develop in connection with use of the Neahwa Park baseball diamond by the Milford Macs.

This was the opinion expressed Monday by Deane Winsor, Milford Macs manager. Mr. Winsor does not have a contract for using the diamond. Before the season started, he was assured he would get one.

He said he is not going to press for the contract now, “but if something should happen…” He did not finish the sentence.

Mr. Winsor is not complaining.

He operated in Neahwa Park with only a verbal agreement on the time he would be able to play there, what fees he would pay and with a verbal understanding that he would be able to operate the concession stand there.
