Sixteen Oneonta Public School children rode away with first and second place ribbons Wednesday afternoon in the Elementary School Bicycle Safety Rodeo in Neahwa Park.
Five parents and three judges watched the fifty students go through the course. All the entries were winners in bicycle safety tests conducted at the city’s public elementary schools earlier this month.
Receiving first place blue ribbons were:
Fourth graders, Timothy Bliss, Valleyview School and Janine Collins, Chestnut Street School.
Fifth graders, Sharon Gonser, Valleyview School and Stephen Judd, Plains School.
Sixth graders, Beth Whittemore, Center Street School and Dietmar Jaceck, Plains School.
Red ribbons went to second place winners: Fourth graders, Carolyn Anderson, Center Street School, G. R. Hinman, Plains School and Timothy Salisbury, Center Street School. Fifth graders, Deborah Anderson, Plains School, Marguerite Shedlock, Mitchell Street School, James Rudloff, Valleyview School and Stephen Parsons, Mitchell Street School. Sixth graders, Sherry Bliss, Valleyview School, Carol Church, River Street School and Kurt Clarkson, Plains School.
Judges for the event were Albert W. Scheer Jr., Plains School physical education teacher, chairman, Joseph P. Campbell, Plains School sixth grade teacher and William Haber, Chestnut Street School fourth grade teacher.
