VERNON — Son of Rodney, a harness-horse owned by Carlton Eldred of Oneonta, captured this third straight victory at Friday night’s $2,500 fourth race at Vernon Downs.
Driven by Michael Eldred, Son of Rodney was third through the first half of the mile, then moved up to challenge in the third quarter. Still in second and more than two lengths back at the top of the stretch, he outsprinted Yellow Rose Lover in the final eighth of the mile tow in by a neck.
Timed in 2:02.4 on a track rated “good” after rain earlier in the day, Son of Rodney increased his season’s earnings to nearly $3,500. The 4-year-old trotter’s career total exceeds $9,000.
