An aggregate annual payroll of almost two and a half million dollars, a family of 418 full-time employees and a student body of 2,018 has made State University College at Oneonta one of the largest contributors of the city’s economy.

Conservatively estimating yearly local purchases and spending by the college’s 2,999-plus student population, college officials propose that each student adds approximately $20 a week, or about a million and a half dollars a year to Oneonta’s financial status.

Summer session and extension class programs for area students in 1962 produced a total staff salary figure of over $150,000 which also was added to the community’s financial picture.

The year 1962 saw all enrollment, staff and payroll figures hitting new records at the college.

Dr. Royal F. Netzer, president of the State University unit, reported that a minimum of 10 new positions in the instructional staff, additional maintenance and clerical employees and an additional 200 students would mark college growth in 1964.

The college head described academic progress as the most important gain for the college in 1962. He said that curriculum changes have brought about the addition of the liberal arts program and developed courses and course content to better meet the needs of the future teachers of the state.
