A children’s radio show being broadcast for the first time beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday will feature a variety of contemporary children’s artists, classic children’s music, popular singers, and stories.

Jerry Kabat, an Oneonta father tired of the violent and mindless Saturday morning cartoons, will be broadcasting the show on Hartwick College radio station WRHO 87.9 FM. Future shows will depend on the amount of interest generated in the program. He will judge interest by requesting that people call in during the program.

The Hartwick station has a low power of only 10 watts, and probably can be heard only within Oneonta, Kabat said.

COOPERSTOWN — Finding a job in the next few years may be real difficult for the unprepared, but for those who have the qualifications and interest and are prepared there will be many opportunities, as there always are for capable and well-trained people, Edgar C. Gentle, Jr., director of the Data Communications Training Program in Cooperstown, said Saturday.

Mr. Gentle addressed his remarks to representatives of 33 high schools of the Catskill Area School Study Council, who spent most of the day here on a visit and study of facilities of the Bell Data Communications Training Program conducted at the Otesaga Hotel in Cooperstown.

“On one hand, almost every trend in the labor market is now operating to the younger worker’s disadvantage,” pointed out Mr. Gentle. “The shift from blue- to white-collar jobs is related to the shift from goods to services in the economy.

“We are here in Cooperstown, where we have set up the Data Communications Training Program to help our people with the advancing knowledge and technology of engineering — to see that we continue to have good men,” the speaker emphasized.
