The immediate addition of 700 feet to the runway at the F& F Airport at Emmons will bring the total landing distance at the airport to 3,700 feet, the owners announced Tuesday.

Currently under construction, the strip addition will be turf surfaced as is the remainder of the landing area, allowing, Mr. Fortin reported, sufficient space on a dry day for landing and take off of larger planes of the DC 3 class.

In fact, Mrs. Fortin reported, a sizable plane which she identified as a two-engine Areo-Commander, was able to land and take off from the current runway Saturday.

She briefly reviewed the progress of the airport, noting that it was started in 1959 when there was 2,400 feet of runway available.

In 1961, she explained, 600 feet was added to the strip to make a 3,000 foot runway. Now the bulldozer is working and a grader is due in this morning to finish off the new grade for the added 700 feet.

Eight planes in all are stationed at the field which lies just south of the West Davenport Road and east of the Susquehanna River. Busiest times, the Fortins report, are the weekends, but, depending on the vagaries of the weather, from three to six planes land and take off daily.

In addition, Mrs. Fortin reported, charter air service from the strip can be arranged through an agreement the F&F owners have with Cooperstown charter operator George Tillapaugh.
