SIDNEY — Queen contests in Oneonta tonight and in Cooperstown Thursday are expected to complete the field for the beauty contest to be held Saturday as a feature of the Susquehanna Valley Canoe Regatta.
The queen finals and other events will be held at Hotaling Flats across the river from Sidney Saturday, beginning at 2 p.m.
Three girls from Sidney already have been selected as finalists. They are Judy Kean, Barbara Stilson and Donna Simmons.
Thursday is the deadline for entering the canoe race. A men’s race and a mixed crew race will be held from Portlandville to Sidney with a special women’s race from Otego to Sidney.
Earl Wolfe of Cooperstown will be master of ceremonies at Hotaling Flats, where some of the games will include a greased pig chase, a pole climb and pony ride. There will be music for dancing and a barbecue. World Series scores will be relayed over the p.a. system.
The Regatta Queen will be awarded a crown made by Bobbie Jensen of Cooperstown, an engraved bowl, a sweater, a record and roses plus a $10 gift certificate that will go to the queen and also to the six attendants to be chosen at the contest.
