Street Talk for June 22, 2009

June 26, 2009 09:40 am

Question of the week:What do you think about President Obama's efforts to reform health care in the United States?

“The reason why it’s so expensive is because of insurance companies. It’s like car insurance. I got to give President Obama credit for trying, though. Anything is better than Bush.

— Tyler Wormsley, retail, Bainbridge

“I think people should get their own health care and that it shouldn’t be government funded.”

— Doug Gould, unemployed, Davenport

“I think he’s got the right idea. There should be a public option for people who can’t afford it, so I’m for it. I think health care should be a right, not an option. As a citizen you should be entitled to a certain amount of health care.”

— Michael Wilkinson, military, Sidney

``I hope he does it. I am a citizen who is uninsured and I know what it can do to you financially if you do not have insurance.

What I hope he doesn’t do is cave in too much, because we need an option through our government.”

— Ania Krasinski, horse trainer, Stamford

“There are people in need but don’t have it, and something needs to be done about that.”

— Gregory Black, retired teacher, Delhi

“A lot of other countries have it, and why should anyone in this country be denied it. I’ve heard a lot of good things about universal health care, and I’ve heard negative things, too, but I think there are more positive things to be said about it.’’

— Gail Black, retired teacher, Delhi
