Oneonta City Court evacuated, then reopened

Suspicious substance in letter found to be harmless

--- — Oneonta City Court was sealed off and evacuated this morning after a suspicious powdery substance arrived at the courthouse in an enveloped addressed to the court, city police reported.

The incident, which took place about 9 a.m., was investigated through a multi-agency effort.  The determination was that the substance was nonhazardous and posed no threat to anyone who had been in contact with it. 

The joint investigation included members of the Oneonta City Police, Oneonta Fire Department, New York State Court Officers and US  Postal Inspectors.

The court and building was reopened for business as usual.
