Arrest made after attempted break-in

The East Meredith man arrested by state police Saturday in connection with two recent robberies and an attempted robbery was captured after employees at one of those locations saw him trying to enter the building.

Johnathan R. Lynn, 23, was charged Saturday with 3rd-degree attempted robbery, a class E felony, after employees reported him trying to break into Otsego Auto Crushers, on state Route 23 in the town of Davenport, wearing a face mask, state police at Oneonta Investigator Jeff Moore said.

Lynn was also charged with criminally possessing a hypodermic instrument, a class A misdemeanor.

Troopers responded after employees called at about 12:30 p.m. on Saturday about the attempted entry. Lynn was located nearby sitting in his truck shortly afterward, following a search by troopers. No force was required, troopers said.

A helicopter was used in the search, but it was not involved in locating the suspect, Moore said. Lynn was arraigned in Davenport Town Court on those charges, and remanded to Delaware county jail on $15,000 bail.

According to a media release from state police, further investigation revealed that Lynn had also been responsible for a robbery April 19 at the Convenience Express on state Route 7 in Oneonta’s East End, and a robbery Thursay at the Oneonta Arby’s. Additional charges of two counts of robbery in the second degree, a class C Felony, are pending in Oneonta Town Court.

In both robberies, the suspect’s identity had been concealed with a mask. Witnesses described the man as wearing the same hooded sweatshirt with Monster and Fox Racing logos.

Following the Arby’s robbery, state police confirmed that they believed the crimes were committed by the same person. In both cases, witnesses said the masked man showed a note saying that he had a gun; the clerk at the Convenience Express said he saw a gun tucked into the man’s pants, but no gun was seen at Arby’s. The man left on foot from each incident, witnesses said.
