Independence Party endorses Chris Gibson

Republican Congressman Chris Gibson has once again been endorsed by the Independence Party of New York, the party announced today.

Gibson is running for re-election in the 19th Congressional District. He also received the Independence Party endorsement in 2012.

“Chris Gibson has been a hard-working and responsive representative in Congress, and the Independence Party is proud to support Chris for re-election in 2014,” said Independence Party Chairman Frank MacKay in a media release.

Gibson, a 49-year-old decorated combat veteran, won his second term in Congress in 2012, defeating lawyer Julian Schreibman of Stone Ridge, Ulster County. Gibson’s victory in the realigned district came in the same election cycle when President Barack Obama, a Democrat, drew many more votes from the same pool of voters than Republican Mitt Romney. The Independence party is the largest party in New York outside of the Democratic and Republican parties.

“It is an honor once again to receive the endorsement of the Independence Party,” Gibson said in a statement released by the Independence Party.  “Their endorsement is a reflection of my belief that representation means putting upstate New Yorkers first in everything I do, bringing together people from across the political spectrum to advance solutions that are good for my constituents.”
