Cobleskill man charged with embezzling from bowling league

The Daily Star

---- — The treasurer of the Cobleskill Bowling League is being held at Albany County Jail today after being charged by State Police with the embezzlement of nearly $10,000 from the organization.

Charles A. Bowen of Summit, as the treasurer for the league based at Cobleskill Lanes, allegedly pocketed membership dues he collected from the league's 50 members from September to last month.
State Police launched the investigation recently after league members became suspicious about what was happening to the membership funds after checks were returned for insufficient funds, troopers said.
Bowen had collected $20,000, and kept nearly half for his personal use, police said. He was ordered held at the jail after he was arraigned in Cobleskill town court on a charged of third-degree grand larceny, a felony.
Schoharie County officials have been relying on the Albany lockup since the local correctional facility was shut down after sustaining flood damage in 2011.
