SUNY Oneonta projects to get $13 million in state budget funding

-- —

The state's 2014-15 budget includes $13 million for two projects at the State University College at Oneonta, Assemblyman Bill Magee, D-Nelson, said today.

The funding includes $5 million to construct a campus welcome center at SUNY Oneonta and $8 million to rebuild the Milne Library on campus, Magee said in a media release.

Hal Legg, spokesman for SUNY Oneonta, said the college has appreciated Magee's support throughout the years.

Magee said he also secured $3 million to upgrade electrical feeders and distribution at the State University College of Agriculture and Technology at Morrisville.

“The state’s investment in SUNY Oneonta and Morrisville will help to revitalize these campuses and create good jobs,” said Magee in the release. “I remain committed to higher education and will work to ensure that both public and private colleges can continue to provide a quality, affordable education to all.”

Magee said he was optimistic that the state budget will be approved later today, as part of the fourth consecutive on-time budget.

The Senate and Assembly began passing budget bills this afternoon, but it was unclear if they would finish before the deadline of midnight, when the state's fiscal year begins, the Associated Press reported.
