A founder of McLaughlin's Department Store died on Wednesday, according to his obituary.
Spencer Joseph McLaughlin, 77, of Norwich, began the family business in 1955 with his father and brother Clifford, according to the obituary.
The funeral is scheduled for Monday, and both stores _ located in Norwich and Oneonta _ will be closed that day, according to a store advertisement.
Family or management could not be reached at the Norwich store for comment on Friday.
McLaughlin was a Waterville native and moved to Norwich in 1986, according to the obituary.
His business career began with the assistance of his father and the acquisition of several movie theaters in the Waterville area, it said. He ran stores at several upstate New York locations until his retirement in 1997. The Oneonta store opened in 2003.
