WEST ONEONTA _ The Oneonta Town Board will meet at 2 p.m. today at the town hall.
The board is expected to act on recommendations from the Personnel and Public Safety committees.
The committees have been dealing with several issues surrounding the town constabulary, inluding the potential hiring of two constables and new rules regarding equipment and procedures.
Retailers to meet with developer
ONEONTA _ Downtown Oneonta business owners will meet with development professionals this morning to discuss goals, projects and other economic issues.
The Otsego County Economic Development Office, 55 Maple Street and Main Street Oneonta will hold the meeting at Stella Luna Ristorante on Market Street from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. today.
Man charged with growing pot
EDMESTON _ A 45-year-old man was arrested last week for allegedly growing marijuana.
Timothy J. Tully, of Edmeston, was charged with unlawfully growing cannabis, a misdemeanor, after 196 marijuana plants, marijuana paraphernalia and growing equipment were found at his home and property, state police said in a media release issued Tuesday.
The investigation was initiated by the Department of Child Protective Services, troopers said.
Police plan crackdown on DWI
"Over the Limit, Under Arrest" is a national STOP-DWI mobilization that begins Friday and runs through the Labor Day holiday.
During the mobilization, state and local law enforcement agencies statewide will be out, using sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols to deter drunken driving.
The "Over the Limit, Under Arrest" effort is the fifth of seven major STOP-DWI crackdowns targeting popular celebration weekends during 2009.
The first four were: Jan. 26-Feb. 2, for the Super Bowl; March 9-17, for St. Patrick's Day; May 21-25, for Memorial Day weekend; and June 21-July 5, for the Fourth of July holiday.
The remaining crackdown periods for this year are: Oct. 25-31, for Halloween; and Nov. 20-Jan. 2, 2009, for the Thanksgiving through New Year's holiday season.
