COBLESKILL _ Sen. James Seward and SUNY Board of Trustees Chairman Carl Hayden met with SUNY Cobleskill President Donald Zingale on Thursday to discuss economic impacts on the college and additional funding opportunities.

Seward and Hayden toured the State University College of Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill campus, with stops at the child-care center, dairy complex, equine center, fish hatchery and the American Heritage Restaurant; all are working labs for students.

In Cobleskill on Thursday, Zingale and several college vice presidents presented an overview of the demands and challenges facing a public college of agriculture and technology with a contiguous farm operation.


Winners announced in debate competition

EDMESTON _ A speech-and-debate competition was held Saturday at Edmeston Central School, according to a media release.

Weather and road conditions kept participation down, but other local schools attending were Unatego and Worcester central schools and Family Foundation School in Hancock.

Top local winners included: Original Oratory, third place _ Aaron Podorson, Unatego; Extemporaneous, first place _ Vic Celani, Family Foundation; second place _ Umberto Angilletta, Unatego; Varsity Impromptu, first place _ Justin Osario, Edmeston; Duo, second place _ Francis Grungfeld/Kyle Norton, Worcester; Lincoln-Douglas Debate, first place _ Randall Koutnik, Worcester; third place _ Gwen Davis.
