Narcotics arrest follows drug probe
An Oneonta man was arrested last week for allegedly selling a prescription narcotic in the city over the summer.
Jeffrey J. Downey, 35, was charged with fourth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance.
He was arrested Wednesday on a sealed indictment that followed a two-month investigation by the Oneonta Police Department, the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office, the state Department of Health Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement and the Otsego County District Attorney’s Office.
Downey sold suboxone, which is used to treat opiate addiction, in August, according to deputies.
Downey was sent to Otsego County jail on $15,000 bail and is to appear in county court today.
Deputies: Woman used bad checks to buy cars
A Little Falls woman was arrested Friday in connection with an alleged scam to buy used cars with checks.
Rebecca R. Johnson-Wood, 33, was charged by Otsego deputies with two counts of third-degree grand larceny and first-degree scheme to defraud, which are felonies.
She was arrested at the Delaware County jail where she is being held on other charges.
Johnson-Wood wrote bad checks to buy two cars valued at more than $3,000 from two different Unadilla auto sales businesses in March and June 2009, according to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office. She is due to reappear in county court Friday.
Court proceeding nets perjury charge
A woman who allegedly gave false testimony in Otsego County Family Court was charged with first-degree perjury .
Tammy L. Hotaling, 35, of Oneonta, was arrested Oct. 20 related to the Oct. 16 incident, according to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office.
No further information was available due to the nature of the proceedings involving Hotaling, according to deputies.
She was sent to Otsego County jail on $2,000 bail and later released.
Hotaling is to reappear in Cooperstown Village Court on Nov. 17.
Oneonta man charged with rape
A 28-year-old Oneonta man was arrested last week for allegedly having sex with an underage girl three years ago.
Ralph E. Leonard Jr. was charged with third-degree rape, police said Monday.
Although the sex was consensual, Leonard was 24 at the time and the girl was 15, police said.
He was released to reappear in Oneonta City Court at a later date.
