Hartwick College cross country coach Dereck Treadwell will accompany brothers Tim and Luke Sattler to this weekend's International Triathlon Union Duathlon World Championships in Remini, Italy.

Treadwell, Hawks sophomore Tim Sattler and 2007 Hartwick graduate Luke Sattler will represent the United States in the running and cycling event, which runs today through Sunday.

All three will compete on the same course. The races consist of a 10-kilometer run, 40 kilometers of cycling and a 5-kilometer run.

Treadwell will compete in the Elite World Championship on Saturday. A Division I All-American at the University of Maine, Treadwell won the national title last fall at the Powerman Ohio Duathlon outside of Cincinnati and broke the running course record at the Columbia Triathlon last spring in Columbia, Md. He also raced in the Mooseman Half-Iron Man (Bristol, N.H.), the Philadelphia Triathlon, the Rhode Island Half Iron Man and the Duathlon World Championships (Geel, Belgium).

The Sattlers, who qualified in April during USA Triathlon's duathlon national championships in Richmond, Va., will race in the Men's Age Group World Championship on Sunday.

The 13th annual "The Maine Event," which features 10- and 5-kilometer runs, starts at 10 a.m. Oct. 11 at Brookfield Town Park on Academy Road in Brookfield.

First organized in 1995 as a tribute to the late Ethel Maine, the event serves as a fundraiser for the Brookfield Optimist Club and the South Brookfield Cemetery Association.

Cost is $10 for Brookfield Central students, $15 for pre-registered runners (by Sept. 30) and $20 for race-day registration. Make checks payable to Brookfield Optimist Club and mail to The Maine Event, c/o Suzanne Scully, 10760 Miner Road, West Edmeston, NY 13485.

The 15th annual FAM 5K "Fund" Run/Walk begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Cobleskill Fairgrounds.

The event, which is sanctioned by the Adirondack Association of USA Track and Field, is expected to draw more than 800 participants and will benefit Catholic Charities of Schoharie County.
