Jim Dillenbeck and Vic VanSteenburg earned their second straight Susquehanna Bass Association event, taking the Oneonta Cooperstown Pennysaver Open on Otsego Lake last weekend with a five-fish limit weighing 16.21 pounds.

Dillenbeck contributed the lunker of the day, a 4.1-pound, 19.5-inch largemouth bass, to the winning total.

Bruce Hall and Vince Fink finished second with five fish at 14.98 pounds. Lou Falvo and Matt Maison (five fish, 13.64 pounds) placed third, and R.J. Platt and Lou Blasetti Jr. (five, 12.35) rounded out the top four.

Pat McNeil caught the big smallmouth, at 3.35 pounds and 19 inches.

The next SBA tournament is the ONEY'S Garage Open, which runs from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 28 on the Mohawk River. The SBA also will host the Mac's Barber Shop Fun Tournament on Canadargo Lake from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 5.

This tournament is open to the public (three men or women per boat) and costs $20 per person. Pre-registration is required. For more information, call Frank at 607-432-7553 by Oct. 1.

{"HeadlineLight14"/}Area men finish triathlons

Springfield Center resident David Staley, 50, completed the 32nd annual Josh Billings Run-A-Ground Triathlon on Sept. 7 in Lenox, Mass.

Staley placed 262nd in 3 hours, 34 minutes but was one of 10 individuals who completed all three parts of the event _ a 5-mile canoe race, a 25-mile bicycle ride and a 6.2-mile run _ by themselves. The other 381 finishers were teams of two, three of four people.

Staley also finished the canoe race, which mostly featured two-person teams, 162nd out of 219 entrants.

Stamford resident Bob Connelly, 48, placed 650th overall in the Ford Ironman Wisconsin 2008 triathlon Sept. 7 in Madison, Wisc.

Connelly completed the event in 11:59:52 and finished 46th out of 206 entrants in the men's 45-49 age-group.

He covered the 2.4-mile swim in 1:13:42; the 112-mile bike ride in 5:51:03; and the 13.1-mile run in 4:41:51. His total time also included 9:50 in the swim-to-bike transition and 3:26 in the bike-to-run transition.

A total of 2,082 participants finished the triathlon.

The Charlotte Valley Central School Varsity Club/GAA and the Davenport Soccer Club will sponsor its soccer alumni weekend in conjunction with the Chic Walshe Tournament from Friday through Sunday.

Events include a bonfire/pep rally at 6:30 p.m. Friday with a student dance to follow. The 21st annual Chic Walshe Tournament begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, when South Kortright's girls play Morris. The Rams' boys follow against Cooperstown at noon. Davenport's girls play Worcester at 2 p.m., followed by a boys meeting between the same schools at 4 p.m.

The Davenport Soccer Club will hold a dinner/dance at the East Meredith Fish and Game Club at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Male and female alumni soccer games will be held at the Harold Vroman Fields at Davenport at 11 a.m. Sunday with a picnic to follow.

The 15th annual FAM 5K "Fund" Run/Walk begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Cobleskill Fairgrounds.

The event, which is sanctioned by the Adirondack Association of USA Track and Field, is expected to draw more than 800 participants and will benefit Catholic Charities of Schoharie County.

The Knapp Basketball College Exposure Shootout at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill invites local boys and girls high school players and college coaches to attend its sessions this fall.

The girls shootout is slated for Sunday. The boys shootout follows Oct. 12.
