Softball league seeks umpires
The Oneonta branch of the National Softball Association is seeking umpires for its upcoming 14U and 16U fastpitch leagues.
Umpires must be at least age 18, possess knowledge of the game and pass the NSA umpires exam.
Pay is $35 per game and each umpire will have at least two games per week from mid-June through the end of July. For more information, call Amber Emerson at 607-988-6372.
MLB competition May 17
The Springfield Center Community Center will host a free Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run Competition for area youths from 3-5 p.m. May 17.
There is no cost to participate in the event, which will be divided into the following age-groups: 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14.
All-around champions and winners of each category (pitching, hitting and running) in each age-group will advance to sectional competition. MLB stadiums will host the team championships at a later date. The national finals will take place during the All-Star Game.

Baseball, softball sign-ups set
The Franklin Recreation summer baseball and softball programs are accepting sign-ups through May 23.
The programs are for boys and girls ages 5-12. Registration forms will be sent home with students but are also available in the main office at Franklin Central.

Soccer camp sets dates
The Headwaters Soccer Club Summer Camp, which will celebrate its 19th anniversary this summer, will host seven camps for boys and girls ages 7-17, as well as team camps.
Camps cost $60 per week and run from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Participants will receive a T-shirt and a water bottle.
Camp dates are as follows: June 30-July 4 at Otego Elementary; July 7-11 at Worcester Central; July 14-18 at Mine Kill State Park; July 21-25 at Mine Kill State Park; July 28-Aug. 1 at Edmeston Central; Aug. 4-8 at Mine Kill State Park; Aug. 11-15 at Oneonta State.

Adult soccer leagues start soon
The Latte Lounge/Sears and Mine Kill State Park adult summer soccer leagues are seeking teams and players for the 2008 season, which runs from mid-June until early August.
The Latte Lounge/Sears League will be played in Oneonta, and the Mine Kill State Park League will run in North Blenheim. Both leagues feature men's and women's divisions for players ages 17 and older.

Golf tourney to run June 14
The Headwaters Soccer Club will host its 15th annual charity golf tournament at 2 p.m. June 14 at the Stamford Golf Club.
Cost to participate in the 72-player scramble is $60 for members and $70 for non-members and includes greens fees, cart, golf towel and buffet. Entrants can register as teams or as individuals for the event, which will benefit the soccer camp's scholarship fund for needy area children.
