An Oneonta woman visiting an inmate at the Otsego County jail has found herself behind bars.
Amber R. Pirone, 36, was arrested Saturday for allegedly trying to smuggle a prescription painkiller into the Otsego County jail.
She was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and first-degree promoting prison contraband _ all felonies _ in connection with a visit to an inmate Jan. 3. She was also charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance for allegedly possessing eight Lortab pills on a second visit to the jail Saturday, according to a media release from Otsego deputies.
The day after Pirone's first visit, jail staff found Lortab pills hidden in the visitation room, and a subsequent investigation revealed she was the one that hid the drugs, deputies said.
Pirone does not have a prescription for Lortab, deputies said.
Pirone was arraigned on the felony charges by Otsego Town Judge James Wolff and sent to the Otsego County jail on $5,000. She was given an appearance ticket on the misdemeanor charge.
