Midyear cuts to the staff at Otsego-Northern Catskills BOCES could be forthcoming, District Superintendent Nicholas Savin said.

The announcement came as part of a presentation he gave to the Oneonta Central School Board during its regular meeting.

Wednesday's meeting was at Center Street Elementary School.

Savin said he will recommend the cuts at Tuesday's meeting of the Board of Cooperative Educational Services. He cited a lack of enrollment for his proposal.

Savin could not say how many people would be affected by the plan to cut 6.5 licensed teaching assistants and 1.5 teachers, because of attrition, he said.

The district employed 270 people, Savin said in August.

Savin discussed the situation while inviting the board to submit ideas to a strategic plan being developed to address issues confronting the BOCES, including declining enrollment.

Similar discussions are being held with all the constituent districts, he said. A draft of the plan is expected by spring, he said.
