A two-car collision on state Route 12 in Norwich Sunday afternoon sent six people to local hospitals, some with serious injuries, according to fire officials.
The crash occurred in front of the Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall and involved a car that veered to the right and struck a car waiting to pull out onto Route 12, according to Norwich Fire Chief Tracy Chawgo late Sunday night.
A media release on the 3:20 p.m. crash is expected to be distributed today, and no troopers familiar with the collision were on duty, state police at Sidney said at 10:15 p.m. Sunday.
One of those injured in the collision was transported to Wilson Regional Medical Center in Binghamton by helicopter, and two others were taken there by ambulance, Chawgo said.
The three remaining victims were taken by ambulance to Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich, Chawgo said.
Chawgo said he did not know anything about the patients' conditions.
Norwich was busy this weekend with about 10,000 people in town for the Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament, Chawgo said.
Two ambulances from the Norwich Fire Department and one each from Cooperstown Medical Transport and the Oxford Fire Department responded to the scene. Sherburne Fire Department stood by at their station, Chawgo said.
