DELHI _ The Delaware County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution Wednesday to accept $34,000 in grant money to support local efforts to reduce chronic disease.
The Delaware County Public Health "Healthy Communities" initiative will enable it to work with the state Department of Health to minimize obesity and related chronic diseases through increased physical activity and improved nutrition.
Other resolutions approved by the board include:
ä The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce was designated as the Tourism Promotion Agency for Delaware County for the purpose of making applications for and receiving grants under the Economic Development Law. The Chamber of Commerce will provide the required local matching funds for the "I Love New York" tourism promotion 2009-10 program.
ä The Delaware County Department of Social Services will administer the Community Solutions for Transportation Program through the federal Social Services Administration. The program provides $27,080 to be used for public-assistance employment purposes.
ä The county Department of Public Works was authorized to purchase two hopper spreaders from the Chemung Supply Corp. of Elmira for $12,260.
