Section Four C-D

Top-seeded Amber Recinella and Meghan Hall topped Delhi teammates Jackie Prindle and Lindsay Seyforth, 6-2, 6-3, to win the Section Four Class C-D doubles championship Friday at SUNY Delhi. Prindle and Seyforth were seeded third for the tournament, which began Thursday at SUNY Delhi.

The Bulldogs, who clinched the team title Thursday, finished with 57 points. Oxford finished with 35 points, moving into second place with two victories in third-place matches.

Third-seeded Erica DeWispelacere defeated No. 4 Marissa Morton of Sidney, 6-4, 6-2, in the third-place singles match. Oxford also got a third-place doubles victory from Megan Phinney and Olivia Powell, the tournament's second-seeded doubles team that fell to Prindle and Seyforth in a semifinal Thursday. Phinney and Powell beat fourth-seeded Marlie Meno and Arielle Zimmer of Sidney, 7-5, 6-7 (3), 6-1.

Oxford's third-place winners advanced to a Section Four State Qualifier play-in round Wednesday at the Binghamton Tennis Center. Wednesday's winners will earn berths into the qualifiers, which begin Oct. 19 at the BTC.

Both of Delhi's doubles teams earned automatic bids to the qualifiers, which also will feature singles champion Tori Barbeisch of Greene and singles runner-up Carlene Bracci of Delhi.

MAC tiebreaker set

Delhi and Oxford will play a tiebreaker for the Midstate Athletic Conference championship at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bainbridge-Guilford. The two teams finished tied atop the MAC standings at 11-1 this season.

Sidney 2, Afton 2

The second of Jess Winans' two goals tied the score in the second half as visiting Afton earned a Section Four Conference draw.

Christina Houck and Merideth Delello scored in the first half for the Warriors, who were outshot, 11-7. Sidney (5-8-2) hosts Hancock on Monday.

Amy Olin's goal with 11 minutes remaining snapped a 2-all tie and helped Afton to a Section Four Division II road win Thursday.

Stephanie Parsons had two goals and an assist for the Crimson Knights, who trailed, 2-1, at halftime.
