One Oneonta supermarket is affected by the expanded JBS Swift Beef Co. recall, according to a company media release.
Hannaford is advising consumers to check their freezers for any ground beef or beef products with sell-by dates from April 28 through June 6, the release states. A spokeswoman from Price Chopper said those stores were not affected.
According to its website, Hannaford was notified Sunday by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service that JBS, of Greeley, Colo., is recalling beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli 0157:H7, the release states.
E. coli is a potentially deadly bacterium. The very young, seniors and people with weak immune systems are the most susceptible to food-borne illness, the release said.
Although Hannaford was notified the recall includes specific cuts of beef and ground beef, "in an abundance of caution, Hannaford is encouraging its customers to check their freezers for any fresh beef products with sell dates of April 28 through June 6, 2009," the release said.
Hannaford will provide a refund or replacement of any beef or ground-beef product purchased at its stores with those sell-by date ranges, it said.
That list of recalled beef is available online at www.oneontanow.com/beefrecall.
