Dan O'Brien's season-high 25 points led Oneonta High's boys to a tougher-than-expected 55-47 Southern Tier Athletic Conference boys basketball victory over visiting Chenango Forks on Wednesday.

"Dan was a constant," said OHS coach Jerry Mackey, whose 12-2 team struggled against a 3-9 Forks squad. "He had a couple of tough rollouts or it could have been a 30-point night, but he hit enough big shots to cover for our defensive mistakes."

O'Brien scored 11 points and Alex Mirabito had nine of his 13 in the opening quarter, when the Yellowjackets took a 22-9 lead.

In the first half, O'Brien and Mirabito combined for 29 of Oneonta's 31 points. O'Brien, whose previous season-high of 24 points came in a win over Burnt Hills, had 18 points in the first half. OHS took a 31-21 lead into halftime.

"We got a big lead and then settled in and thought it was going to be a cakewalk," Mackey said. "I told them during a timeout that this team has a championship football tradition. They're not going to pack it in."

Monte Richardson came off the bench to score all eight of his points in the second half for Oneonta, which increased its lead to as many as 19 points in the second half.

Garrett Cade paced CF with 16 points.

The Yellowjackets (9-1 in STAC) play at Maine-Endwell on Friday.

With season-ending knee surgery pending, Chris McGinnis finished with a team-high 18 points to lead four Bainbridge-Guilford scorers in double figures as the Bobcats won at home in the Midstate Athletic Conference.

B-G coach Ben Nelson said McGinnis' presence in the lineup provided inspiration for the Bobcats, who pulled away from 44-44 tie after three quarters by outscoring the Lumberjacks, 31-25, in the final period.

It was senior McGinnis' final game in a B-G uniform as he'll have surgery to repair his knee in the coming days, Nelson said.

Tim Feyerabend had 14 points and 10 rebounds _ his second double-double of the season _ and teammates Ricky Marjorum and Travis Dickey scored 15 and 12 points, respectively, for B-G.

The Bobcats (3-10, 3-1) play at Oxford on Friday.
