Cherry Valley-Springfield graduate Scott Dubben went 3-for-5 with an RBI to lead Oneonta State to an 8-3 non-conference baseball victory over Gettysburg at Cocoa Beach, Fla., on Tuesday.

Dubben, a four-time Daily Star First-Team All-Star, had an RBI single in the fifth inning to help the Red Dragons (5-0) open a 5-1 lead.

"He's very consistent," O-State coach Rick Ferchen said of his starting shortstop. "That's one thing that's put him at the level he's at. I'm very pleased with what he's been done over the past couple years. Is he somebody that has all the tools to be a professional shortstop? No. But he's very consistent in what he does for us.

"He's also a captain and does a great job as a leader for us," he continued. "Him and (co-captain) Brian Holmes have really held the team together down here."

Pete Lindner went 3-for-4 with four RBIs for the Red Dragons, who scored three more runs in the seventh to take an 8-2 lead. Lindner had an RBI single in the second and a two-run single in the third.

Freshman Jeff Carter earned his first college victory, giving up two runs (one earned) on eight hits over 6 2/3 innings. He struck out three and walked none.

Chris Brady and Mike Center doubled for Oneonta, which had 12 hits.

"The kids responded very well," Ferchen said. "It was a big in-region game from an NCAA standpoint. That's a big win."

The Red Dragons play Penn State-Allegheny at 9 a.m. today and Washington College at 1 p.m.
