Pete Lindner hit a two-run homer to highlight a three-run first inning and lead Oneonta State to a 13-1 baseball victory over Old Westbury in the opening game of a doubleheader at home Thursday.

The Red Dragons won the second game, 5-0.

Lindner finished 2-for-3 and scored three runs for the Red Dragons (19-4). Dan Randall and Carmine Caputo had three hits apiece for O-State, which received two hits and two RBIs from Ryan Myers. Cody Hitt also had two hits.

Brett Meservey (2-1) earned the victory, scattering two hits over seven innings. He struck out four. Caputo, Brian Holmes and Randall each had RBIs in the second game. OHS graduate Jon Wolfanger went 1-for-2 with a run for the Red Dragons, who visit Plattsburgh at noon today.

O-State softball note: Oneonta's doubleheader Tuesday against visiting Cortland has been moved to 3 p.m. Monday.


Rollins 8, O-State 1

Oneonta's winning streak ended at six with a loss at Rollins, the 14th-ranked NCAA Division II team. Mark Cannizzaro beat Adam Podhelski, 6-4, 4-6, 10-6, at sixth singles for O-State (11-3).
