The Oneonta Tigers won't have to wait long to get its first _ and only _ shot at reigning New York-Penn League champion Auburn during the 2008 season.

The Tigers, who were eliminated from the NY-Penn playoffs by Auburn in three games this past season, host the Doubledays for a three-game set from July 2-4.

Their series opener will mark the 16th game of the O-Tigers' 76-game schedule (see Page 14), which the NY-Penn released Tuesday afternoon.

The O-Tigers begin the season June 17 with the first of four road games _ three at Vermont and one at Tri-City _ before opening their home schedule at 7 p.m. June 21 against Tri-City.

Oneonta won its fourth Stedler Division title in six seasons in 2007, when the Tigers went 45-34 under first-year manager Andy Barkett. They met Auburn in the first round of the NY-Penn playoffs and won the opener, 1-0, in 11 innings at Damaschke Field. The Doubledays then rallied at home, winning Game 2, 6-0, and Game 3, 4-3.

Auburn swept Brooklyn in the championship series, winning its first title since sharing the league crown with the Oneonta Yankees in 1998.

The O-Tigers will have three six-game homestands this season, the first from July 1-7. Oneonta's series against Auburn will be followed by another three-game set against State College.

From July 16-21, the Tigers will host back-to-back three-game series against Brooklyn and Vermont. They'll do the same against Hudson Valley and Aberdeen, from Aug. 21-26.

Oneonta's longest road trip will run from July 28-Aug. 3, starting with one game at Tri-City. The Tigers will follow with three at Aberdeen and three more at Tri-City, which will host the NY-Penn All-Star Game on Aug. 19.

O-Tigers owner Sam Nader said Tuesday that he was unsure if Barkett would return to manage his Single-A team in 2008. He added that managers are usually named some time during or after the annual winter baseball meetings.
