PHOENIX MILLS _ Residents of Otsego Manor celebrated Valentine's Day on Friday afternoon with a musical show, chocolate-covered strawberries and champagne.

About 100 residents turned out for the show, which featured Jeff Emhof on keyboard and singers Marzena Gabron and Kevin Kenney performing classic love songs _ from "Jeepers Creepers" to "Dream a Little Dream of Me."

"We're just having a little fun today," social worker Irene Ekstrom said.

Gabron, a social worker who has sung professionally, led the effort to stage the Valentine's Day event, Ekstrom said.

Kenney, a member of Otsego Manor's building maintenance staff, and Emhof, the nursing home's assistant administrator, said they were happy to collaborate. With songs introduced by residents Richard Brown and Emma Jean Shepard, the performance began at 2 p.m.

Resident Beverly Teleky _ who grew up in Unadilla and with her husband, Ed Teleky, operated Teleky's jewelry store in Oneonta _ said she loved the show.

"They are very talented," she said of the musical trio at the front of the room. "(Gabron) has a beautiful voice, and I like the songs they're doing."

Resident Jean Pysnik, a speech therapist who taught in Unadilla and Otego, said she was impressed by the staff's talent.

"They're wonderful; unless you knew, you wouldn't realize they were on staff here and just doing this part-time."

Pysnik, who grew up in Sidney, said Otsego Manor has a constantly changing menu of events for residents.

"This is a wonderful place. They keep us busy with a variety of activities, but they're all voluntary," she said. "If you're interested, you go."

With the large turnout Friday, it was clear most residents are interested in
