Goals five minutes apart by Jake Chase early in the second half rallied Cooperstown's boys to a 3-1 non-league soccer victory over visiting Herkimer on Thursday.

The Redskins (13-3-1) trailed, 1-0, at halftime after Herkimer's Justin Roorda scored 17 minutes into the first half.

But playing against a Herkimer defense that packed eight guys into the 18-yard penalty box, Chase tied the score seven minutes into the second half, when he re-directed a shot by Kyle Hohensee.

"It was like having a guy in hockey in the crease," Cooperstown coach Frank Miosek said of Chase's tying goal. "He re-directed it with a heel touch about 6 yards out."

Chase scored the go-ahead goal five minutes later. He received a pass from Hohensee about 12 yards out, flipped the ball in the air to himself and volleyed it into the net.

Fullback Ryan Davine made it a two-goal spread, scoring from 30 yards with 17 minutes left.

"Today, was a very good game for us," said Miosek, whose team plays at Morrisville-Eaton at 2 p.m. Saturday. "They maintained their composure even after they got down. We moved some people around with Chase going from striker to fullback and Will Dykstra, who had been sick for 10 days, had a real strong game at fullback.

"Kyle Liner and Brandon Lane continued to be strong defenders with an offensive touch," he continued.

Cooperstown will find out its seeding for the Section Three Class C tournament on Sunday.
