JEFFERSON _ A 7-year-old boy is in serious condition at Albany Medical Center after being struck by a hit-and-run motorist Wednesday night.

The boy, Cooper Vroman of Jefferson, was riding his bicycle across from the village green at about 6:30 p.m. when the incident occurred. Sheriff John Bates said the boy was on the edge of road in an area where there is no sidewalk. The driver of the car that hit the boy sped off after the accident.

A hospital official said the boy was in serious condition with a fractured skull. He was rushed to Albany Medical Center with a police escort Wednesday night.

Bates said witnesses described the car as gray with some damage to the front passenger area. He said people with information should call (518) 295-8114.
