Gilbertsville American Legion and Auxiliary celebrated Veterans Day with a celebration at the Legion Hall.
Boy Scout Troop 44 served as the Color Guard, under the leadership of Scoutmaster Steve Gayle. Auxiliary Chaplain Sharon Dickinson offered a prayer, then Scout Nick Sebeck led the pledge to the flag. All veterans introduced themselves and the branch of the military in which they served. Commander Norman Eastwood presented continuous membership certificates to eligible members. Those present to accept the certificates included Paul Cabrinety for 25 years, Stephen Foster for 25 years, and Ralph Wright for 40 years.
Brian Hall's five-year certificate was accepted by his grandfather, Clinton Hall. Clinton Dunham's 35-year certificate was accepted posthumously by his daughter-in-law, Marna Dunham. Vincent Brannick's 55-year certificate was accepted by his great-grandson, Dalton Brannick. Eastwood then introduced Cody Luettger, who described his Boys' State experience.
Auxiliary President Carolee Wright then introduced the Blue Star Banner program. Luettger gave a brief history of the Blue Star Banner. Banners were then presented to the families of Andrew Grabo, Brandon Earl, Jeremy Crawford, Tom LaBar and Zachary Thomas. The families gave a history of their son and his military service.
Auxiliary Girls' State chairwoman Bernie Delaney read the poem, "Blue Star in the Window." The Auxiliary provided refreshments.
