Baseball event to aid GOHS

The Greater Oneonta Historical Society will present a "Baseball Extravaganza" from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Bella Michael's Restaurant in Oneonta.

The afternoon's programming includes an appearance by Sam Nader and a dramatic presentation of "Casey at the Bat" by Tim Wiles.

This all-baseball celebration comes in advance of the GOHS History Center's exhibition of rare baseball memorabilia from Nader's personal collection that will open in the spring. "Baseball in Rural America: A Community's Story," will include rare gloves, bats, signed baseballs and original printed materials reflecting Oneonta's baseball history.

The menu for the afternoon will be prepared by Bella Michael's owner Alex Gracis and will feature clam and shrimp appetizers, stuffed mushrooms, wings and bruschetta. Bella Michael's restaurant is donating use of its space for the event; net proceeds will directly benefit History Center programming.

A prize drawing will feature a family membership in the National Baseball Hall of Fame and a season's pass for two to box seats for the 2008 Oneonta Tigers.

The cost is $20, including food and drink. Reservations are recommended, and can be made by calling 432-0960. Tickets are also available at the History Center on Main Street in Oneonta, which is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Bella Michael's is at 57 River St. in Oneonta.
