Society relocating to fair for week
WALTON — The Walton Historical Society House at 9 Townsend St. in Walton will be closed from Aug. 11 to 17 while members work at the society’s tent at the Delaware County Fair.
In addition to a display at the fair, the 2020 calendar and book, “Thank You For Your Service: Stories of Local Veterans from the Civil War to the Cold War,” by Linda Belmont, will be available.
The society’s house will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24.
Presentation set on fire service history
NORWICH — An interactive presentation showcasing the origins of what evolved into today’s City of Norwich Fire Department will be held for the interested public at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Norwich Fire Station at 31 E. Main St. in Norwich.
Guernsey Memorial Library’s local history clerk Kathryn Greene will present “Give Us Water and We Conquer!”
According to a media release, the third Thursday program sponsored by the Chenango County Historical Society, will demonstrate how early fires were fought, what firefighting equipment was used and how various fire companies, including the Alert, Maydole, Ontario and Union hose companies, were formed.
Photographs of early buildings that once occupied downtown Norwich will be included along with information about major fires that reportedly changed the face of the city.

Screening Coach headed to Walton
WALTON — The Bassett Healthcare Medical Mobile Screening Coach will be at the Delaware County Fair in Walton from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17. No cost mammograms and pap tests will be provided to women 40 and older.
