Activity-packed day set in Fly Creek

FLY CREEK — Family Farm Day, area-wide yard sales and an Antique Engine Show will all be held in Fly Creek on Saturday, Aug. 24.

Family Farm Day will feature tours of the Fly Creek Cider Mill & Orchard, Pail Shop Vineyards, Kingfisher Lavender and Tanner Hill Herb Farm. Visit for more information.

The Fly Creek Area Historical Society will host its 20th annual Fly Creek Community Day and area-wide yard sales. An all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast will be served at the Fly Creek Fire Hall from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Lunch will be served at the Society’s Grange Hall starting at 11 a.m. The Fly Creek Methodist Church will have bake sale in addition to a tag sale at the church.

The Fly Creek Cider Mill will begin its annual inventory reduction warehouse sale at 9 a.m and the 26th annual Antique Engine Show show will be held rain or shine from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Book talk, hike set for Saturday

PRATTSVILLE — Glenn Kresberg of Woodstock will discuss his latest book “Spirits in Stone” at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at 1 p.m. at the Zadock Pratt Museum on Main Street in Prattsville.

Kreisberg will also answer any questions about observational astronomy. A hike to an ancient monolith on Beech Ridge Road in Prattsville will follow led by Kreisberg.

Author, outdoor guide and radio engineer, Kreisberg researches archeoastronomy and landscape archeology in the Hudson Valley and Catskill Mountains.

Area writers to be featured

SALT SPRINGVILLE — Poets and fiction writers of the Central New York Writers Workshop will read from their works at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, at Windfall Dutch Barn on county Highway 31 in Salt Springville.

Poets and writers from Delaware, Otsego and Schoharie counties as well as other areas scheduled to participate include Paul Lamar, Hilda Wilcox, Terry Berkson, Bob Bensen, Ginnah Howard, Julie Suarez Hayes, Bertha Rogers, Sue Spivack, Mary Ann Whelan, Linda Greenwald and Margaret Bryant. Each reading will last about six or seven minutes.

Refreshments will be served. Admission is free. Contributions toward the upkeep of the Barn will be welcomed.
