Library announces annual book sale

HARTWICK — The 25th annual Kinney Memorial Library book sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10; and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at the Hartwick Community Center at 450 County Road 11 in Hartwick.

Summer potluck planned for Aug. 10

COOPERSTOWN — A community summer potluck dinner will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Fly Creek United Methodist Church. Bringing a dish to pass is optional. Drinks and dinnerware will be provided.

Post to host time for arts and crafts

AFTON — Afton VFW Post 359 at 187 Main St. in Afton will host a free arts and crafts morning for children from the age of 4 to fourth grade at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10. The American flag will serve as the theme.

Light refreshments will be provided. Storytelling will also be offered. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Exhibit on Academyset to come to close

DELHI — The Delhi Historical Society’s exhibit of Delaware Academy memorabilia will be made available for the last time from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at Cannon House at 47 Main St. in Delhi.

The exhibit celebrates the bicentennial anniversary of the academy’s 1819 charter. The signed charter is part of the exhibit along with photos, yearbooks, a varsity letter sweater, hats, mugs and other keepsakes.

Golf tournament set for Saturday

SPRINGFIELD CENTER — A four-man scramble golf tournament will be held on Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Otsego Golf Club in Springfield Center. Registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. followed by a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

The $50 per player or $15 per non-player fee includes a meal.

There will also be a Chinese auction, casino hole, 50/50 raffle and face painting for kids.

Proceeds will benefit club member Kevin Fassett of East Springfield.

Society to have annual meeting

GILBERTSVILLE —The annual meeting of the Village Improvement Society of Gilbertsville will be held on Sunday, Aug. 11, at The Major’s Inn at 12 Marion Ave. in Gilbertsville. Social hour will be from 5 to 6 p.m. and the meeting will be from 6 to 7 p.m.

Gun show, market planned for Sunday

UNADILLA — The 43rd annual gun show and flea market will be held rain or shine from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at the Unadilla Rod & Gun Club at 566 Butternut Road in Unadilla. Old, unwanted guns, swords and military relics will be bought, sold and traded by more than 100 dealers. The event is sponsored by Midstate Arms Collectors and the Unadilla Rod & Gun Club. Admission is free. No reservations are needed to participate in the flea market. All federal and New York state firearms law will be observed, including investigations by the National Instant Criminal Background Check System on all firearms sales or transfers.

Nature trail walk offered by OCCA

VAN HORNESVILLE — Otsego County Conservation Association has rescheduled the walk, “Otsquago Creek: Geology in Action.” Originally set for July 20, the date and time were changed to 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 11, on the nature trail at Robert D. Woodruff Outdoor Learning Center at Owen D. Young Central School in Van Hornesville. It will be led by Dr. Les Hasbargen who teaches geology and geomorphology at SUNY Oneonta.

Suitable for all ages, participants will, according to a media release, learn some basic geology and explore terraces, waterfalls and limestone caves formed over time.

Participants should meet at the parking area to the Robert D. Woodruff Outdoor Learning Center at 2316 State Highway 80 in Van Hornesville.

The program is free. Preregistration is requested.
