‘Trees for Tribs’ program to begin
Katherine M. Czajkowski will provide an overview of the state Department of Environmental Conservation’s “Trees for Tribs” program at the next Otsego County Water Quality Coordinating Committee meeting on Thursday.
The WQCC meeting, which will begin at 1 p.m. in Classroom A of The Meadows Office Building at 140 County Highway 33W in Cooperstown, is hosted by the Otsego County Planning Department. This event is free and open to the public; registration is required by Tuesday by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 547-4488.
According to a release, the “Trees for Tribs” program offers trees and shrubs at no cost for plantings along riparian corridors to strengthen, repair and replant stream buffers to enhance water quality protection. (”Tribs” is short for tributaries.)
Czajkowski, Mohawk Watershed coordinator for DEC’s Mohawk River Basin Program, will explain how Trees for Tribs is implemented and how DEC works with program partners. She will also share pictures of planting sites, outline what the expectations are once the trees and/or shrubs are planted, and provide contact information for interested parties in Otsego County.
