Church organizes bag and bake sales
NEW BERLIN — The First United Methodist Church on South Main Street in New Berlin will have a $1 bag sale and bake sale on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 6 and 7. The bag sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. From 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, clothing will be free.
Baked goods will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, unless they sell out sooner.
Noontime start set for annual auction
WEST LAURENS — Bidding will begin at noon Saturday, Sept. 7, at the annual West Laurens Fire Department auction. The firehouse is at 2766 State Highway 23.

Program to feature response to 9/11
SCHOHARIE — The Schoharie County Historical Society will present “We Were There: Schoharie County and the 9/11 Response” at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Schoharie Fire Department at 114 Ford Road in Schoharie.
According to a media release, the event will feature video segments, personal photos and a moderated panel discussion with local representatives who responded and served at Ground Zero in New York City, following the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
Artifacts, on-loan from private collections and those of the New York State Museum, will also be on display.
The panel discussion will be facilitated by former State Emergency Management Office Chief of Training and Exercise and Richmondville Mayor Kevin Neary with representatives from local and state agencies. Those agencies include the New York State Police, state Department of Environmental Conservation, New York State Emergency Management and local fire and ambulance squads.
Panel participants will share their stories with local videographer Dennis Shaw and selections from those interviews will be shown as part of the program. The video segments will join the archives at the Schoharie County Historical Society and the New York State Museum.
Refreshments will be provided by the Bull’s Head Inn.

Democrats to host annual barbecue
HAMDEN — The Delaware County Democratic Committee’s annual Fred Cubera Community Barbecue will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at the Hamden Town Pavilion.
According to a media release, the event will feature barbecued chicken, homemade side dishes, desserts, music and a playground.
Tickets are $15. Children younger than 12 may attend for free. Students may purchase two tickets for the price of one.
Perishable food items will be collected for Delaware County food pantries.
Local, state and national officials are expected to attend.

Masons schedule dinner for Sunday
LAURENS — The regular monthly chicken-and-biscuit dinner hosted by the Laurens Masonic Lodge will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, at the Masonic Lodge at 7 Brook St. in Laurens. In addition to the entree, the all-you-can-eat meal will include mixed vegetables, mashed potatoes, jellied cranberry sauce, pickles, drinks and strawberries and ice cream. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children.
Proceeds will fund lodge functions and maintenance.
