Soup program set to begin Wednesday
WEST END — The free Soup-To-Go program offered to the Oneonta community at Elm Park United Methodist Church at 401 Chestnut St. across from Rite Aid will begin Wednesday, Jan. 15.
Homemade soup will be available for takeout weekly on Wednesdays from 4 to 5 p.m. until March 18. There is no charge for the soup, but donations will be accepted.

Friday dinner set at Veterans Club
CHESTNUT STREET — An eat-in or takeout chicken and biscuit dinner will be served to the public from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at the Veterans Club at 279 Chestnut St. in Oneonta.

Donations wanted for upcoming dance
DOWNTOWN — Donations are being collected for a Formal Wear Exchange to be held from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, in the Fitness Studio of the Oneonta Family YMCA at 20-26 Ford Ave. in Oneonta.
According to a media release, donations will be offered to girls looking for attire and accessories for the annual Valentine’s Ball scheduled for Feb. 1, in the ballroom of Hunt Union on the SUNY Oneonta campus.
Clean, gently worn formal wear may be left at the YMCA until Wednesday, Jan 22. Items should also be good repair, without holes or stains.
In addition to formal dresses or gowns for girls age 3 to 13, dress shoes, shawls, dress jackets, evening purses, clutches, evening gloves, tiaras and jewelry will also be accepted.
Participants in the exchange must be registered for the event by Jan. 22. Registration is available online at http://bit.ly/2020valentinesball. There is a limit of one dress or ensemble per participant.

NAACP to honor King at celebration
CHESTNUT STREET — The 2020 birthday celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., will be sponsored by the Oneonta Area Branch of the NAACP from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, at the First United Methodist Church at 66 Chestnut St. in Oneonta.
Open to all, the event will include birthday cake, music, song and refreshments.
