Charity awards funds to 14 local groups
A total of $600, the first of what will be annual donations from a charity established “in loving memory” of an Oneonta couple’s son, has been distributed to 14 local recipients.
Ravi Singh, son of Ram and Madhu K. Singh passed away on Sept. 17, 2016. He was 25. His family decided to honor his memory and passion for helping others by establishing the Ravi Singh Memorial Nonprofit Charity.
Fund recipients for 2017 include the Oneonta Family YMCA, Milford Fire Department, Family Services Association, Spirit and Truth Church, Friends of the Oneonta Community Health Center, Oneonta Fire Department, Salvation Army, Oneonta High School’s Students Against Destructive Decisions organization, Catholic Charities, Family Resources Network, Oneonta Boy Scouts, Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, West Oneonta Fire Department and Susquehanna Animal Shelter.
Ram Singh likened the fund distribution to his son’s philosophy that sharing a loaf of bread with 10 people is more helpful than giving the entire loaf to one person.
