Sale of bird seed underway by DOAS

WEST ONEONTA — Delaware Otsego Audubon Society’s annual bird seed sale fundraiser is underway. Orders placed by 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, will be available for pickup from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at VP Supply Corp. at 69 Country Club Road in Oneonta.

According to a media release, sale proceeds support speaker fees, field trips, events throughout the year, summer camp programs and Franklin Mountain Hawk Watch.

The sale features locally grown black oil sunflower seed from a farm in Richfield Springs along with premium bird seed by Aspen Song through the Co-operative Feed Dealers in Conklin. Other products include bird-friendly coffee, cat collars, DOAS coffee mugs and Franklin Mountain Hawkwatch hats. Milestone event to be celebrated

SOUTHSIDE — The Dave Brandt Chapter of Trout Unlimited will celebrate its 50th year with a birthday banquet on Saturday, Nov. 16, at Quality Inn on state Route 23 in Oneonta. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a social, followed by the banquet at 7 p.m.

According to a media release, John P. Shaner, retired lifelong sales representative for several sport fishing companies including Hardy, USA, will be the guest speaker. Local radio personality and author Chuck D’Imperio will be master of ceremonies.

Banquet proceeds will fund and support the chapter’s community projects, such as state DEC summer camp scholarships, Trout-in-the-Classroom projects, Fishing Rods for Kids, the Library Fishing Rod Loaner Program and the annual free Father’s Day Fishing Clinic at Neawha Park in Oneonta.

The event is open to the public. Door prizes and  will include a large flat screen TV, along with chances to win or buy works of art and household and sporting equipment.
