Meetings set at Masonic Lodge

Oneonta Lodge 466 Free and Accepted Masons will meet at 7:30 p.m. today for a special meeting at the lodge at 322 Main St. in Oneonta.

The purpose is conferring the Entered Apprentice Degree on two candidates.

The next regular meeting will be he occasion of the district deputy Grand Master’s visit, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6. The meeting will be preceded by a potluck meal, at 6 p.m.

 

Poets toopen visitor writers series

Poets Carol and Richard Frost will read from their work at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Eaton Lounge in Bresee Hall on the Hartwick College campus. The reading  is the first in the 2014-15 Visiting Writers Series, and celebrates the September publication of two new books of their poetry. Admission to the reading is free of charge and the public is invited. 

Refreshments will be served.

Richard Frost is professor emeritus of English at the State University College at Oneonta, and Carol Frost, former professor of English at Hartwick College, teaches at Rollins College in Florida, where she is the Theodore Bruce and Barbara Lawrence Alfond Professor of English. 

Both poets are celebrating the publication of new books of their work. Carol’s 12th  book, “Entwined: Three Lyric Sequences” (Tupelo Press), and Richard’s fifth collection, “Mephisto’s Flea Song” (Marick Press), will be available at the reading. 

The reading is co-sponsored by Hartwick’s English Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta, and the Visiting Writers Series at Hartwick College.

The Frosts are area residents, living in an old farmhouse in the Otsdawa Valley, near Otego, New York.
