Legion Auxiliary to meet Wednesday

WEST END — Members of Oneonta’s American Legion Auxiliary 259 will meet at 7 p.m Wednesday, Sept. 11, at the American Legion Hall/Veterans Club at 279 Chestnut St. in Oneonta. 

Friday film series to begin season

SUNY ONEONTA — Three organizations will co-sponsor the 2019-20 film series known as “Discrimination Matters.” The Oneonta NAACP, Oneonta Community Relations and Human Rights Commission and SUNY Oneonta Africana and Latinx Students Club will present “Delores,” the first of nine films, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at Hunt Student Union’s Union Cafe.  The film will be introduced by SUNY student leaders who will also facilitate a discussion following the film.

According to a media release, films in the series will be shown monthly on the second Friday and will deal with discrimination in American history and contemporary life. “Delores” documents the story of a heroic woman who led, along with Ceasar Chavez, the struggle to achieve rights for migrant laborers on America’s farmland.

HFH to celebrate 30th anniversary 

WEST ONEONTA — Habitat for Humanity of Otsego County will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a community gathering from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, at Elm Park Methodist Church at 401 Chestnut St. in Oneonta.

According to a media release, displays will illustrate Habitat’s work history, longstanding volunteers will be recognized and light refreshments will be served.

Throughout its three decades, Habitat for Humanity reports that is has built 34 partner homes and the 35th is under construction. The organization also completed two major renovations of existing structures in the City of Oneonta and added five handicapped ramps to existing houses.

The public is welcome to join the celebration.
