West Kortright Centre will host workshops for children and adults throughout the summer. The first workshops planned include a "Become a Rock Star" for children and teens and a Bollywood dance workshop.
School of Rock
"Become a Rock Star" is meant for youths ages 9 to 16, and will be Monday, June 28, through Wednesday, June 30, from 3 to 6 p.m.
Area metal band musician Geoffrey Doyle will lead music activities covering blues, heavy metal, hip hop, reggae, R&B and jam band genres. Participants will also learn about rock attitude, hairstyling and costuming.
The first day will be devoted to learning one of the following instruments: electric guitar, drums or bass guitar. Participants will write a song the second day, and record the song on the third day.
No musical experience is needed to attend the workshop. Doyle will provide all instruments for the workshop.
The workshop is $45 for WKC members and $55 for nonmembers.
Bollywood Dance Workshop
A workshop on Bollywood dance will be offered July 6 and 7 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Jo Boring will lead the workshop on dances popular in Hindi-language musicals. Bollywood dancing is a combination of classical Indian dance and folk dancing such as Bhangra, with a hint of Latino and Arabic influence, presenters said.
Boring will teach basic moves and routines in this workshop, meant for all ages.
The cost is $20 for WKC members, and $25 for nonmembers.
Workshops will be at the West Kortright Centre at 49 West Kortright Church Road in East Meredith. For more information, call 278-5454 or visit www. westkc.org.
