TREADWELL — Hartwick College Professor of English Emeritus and poet Robert Bensen will conduct a 10-week poetry workshop at Bright Hill Literary Center of the Catskills from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays, from Sept. 9 to Nov. 11.

According to a media release, the workshop, “Seeing Things 2,” will guide participants to produce their own works of poetry, submit poems for publication and read as writers an array of classical and contemporary poets.

Students will provide copies of one or two new poems of their own composition each week for the class to consider and respond  with comments that encourage revision.

Participants will also be asked to bring a poem or small group of poems that they find instructive for participants to consider and from which to draw a prompt or writing idea for the next session.

Students will also write based on writing games and improvisations. They will be instructed to consider the demands of reading to an audience. They will learn about and practice vocal production, enunciation, projection and interpretation. They will give a joint reading as featured readers at the Word Thursdays program on Nov. 21. Participants will continue to pursue publication in online and print journals and will edit and publish a first workshop anthology of their works.

Enrollment is $175 per person. Financial scholarships are available.

ONEONTA — A Youth Cheer Class will be held weekly for interested 5 to 15 year olds from 4:15 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, from Sept. 10 to Nov. 12, at the Oneonta Family YMCA at 20-26 Ford Ave. in Oneonta. 

According to a media release, the class will be taught Taylor Czyzewski, a certified cheer coach who has competed in national cheerleading competitions. The class will focus on improving technique in motions, jumps, stunting and tumbling. Age-appropriate routines will be taught. 

The fee will be $69 for members or $159. Registration is required.
