Field day to focus on organic seed

NORWICH — The Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York will host a field day focused on expanding organic seed availability and farmer breeder collaboration from 3 to 5:30 p.m Wednesday, Aug. 21, at Norwich Meadows Farm at 105 Old Stone Road in Norwich.

According to a media release, farm owner Zaid Kurdieh and Cornell Professor and partner at Row 7 Seeds Michael Mazourek will share how farmers and seed breeders can develop and revive more resilient seed varieties. The event will also cover restoring lost seed options, high tunnel seed varieties and other projects at Norwich Meadows Farm. Mazorek will also discuss a low-tech harvest tracking system he developed for Norwich Meadows.

The fee is $15. Association members will receive at 10% discount. Preregistration by Aug. 19, is requested online at https://www.nofany.org/our-events/2019-on-farm-field-days.

Walk-ins will also be welcome.
