ONEONTA — The Oneonta High Alumni Association will host its annual homecoming weekend Oct. 5 to 7, with a number of events.
On Friday, there will be a captain-and-crew golf tournament at the Oneonta Country Club. Check in is at 8 a.m. for the 9 a.m. shotgun start. Later, a reception for all classes will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Armory at 4 Academy St. A $15 fee will be collected at the door.
The fourth annual OHS Alumni Military Veterans breakfast will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the American Legion at 279 Chestnut St. and pay tribute to all area Korean War veterans in honor of its 65th anniversary. The breakfast is free for veterans and $5 for all others 12 and older. Email reservations as soon as possible to OHS_Vets@yahoo.com.
Saturday will also feature the OHS Wall of Distinction and Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony at noon in Belden Auditorium at Oneonta High School at 130 East St. Lunch will follow in the cafeteria.
This year’s Wall of Distinction inductees include Harold Anderson, ’48; Howard Canfield, ’32; Maryann Corrao Feree, ’72; and Diane Georgeson, ’75.
Athletic Hall of Fame inductees include the 2002 boys track team; George McGurl, ’67; Terry Deery, ’68; Geoffrey Bean, ’03; and Carl J. DelBerta Sr. from the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club.
A 3 p.m., the OHS football team will play Owego-Apalachin on the new turf field. At half-time, the Athletic Hall of Famers will be introduced at mid-field.
On Sunday, the 25th annual Pit Run 10k, 5k and 2-mile stroll will be held in memory of OHS Class of 1978 alumnus Ricky J. “Pit” Parisian, a New York State Police Investigator killed in the line of duty in 1994.
Race proceeds will help fund the Ricky J. Parisian Memorial Scholarship Foundation, which presents scholarships to graduating OHS seniors every year.
