An AARP Driver Safety Course will take place Tuesday and Thursday, Sept. 9 and 11, at The Welcome Center on Knapp Street in Sherburne. The six-hour course will be from 9 a.m. to noon. Participants must attend the entire course to qualify for the certificate earned with course completion. Those with a New York driver’s license who complete the course may earn a deduction on their automobile insurance for a three-year period, or they can have points removed from their driver’s license. If a family owns more than one vehicle, a second person must take the course to qualify for the second vehicle discount.

Stan White will be the instructor.

The course costs $20 for AARP members who show proof of membership and $25 for non-members, which should be paid to AARP on the first day of the course. Class size is limited.

All participants are asked to bring their driver’s license, AARP card, if applicable, and a pen to class.

Two Smart Driver courses will be held in September.

New material will be presented. AARP has revised its material and renamed the course. This course is open to people of any age that hold New York drivers’ licenses.

One course will be held at the Sidney Memorial Library in Sidney. The class will be held on two days, from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 10 and 11. Each participant must attend both days to qualify for the certificate.

An one-day class will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Bainbridge from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 20. There will be a break for lunch.

Those people completing the course are entitled to a deduction on their insurance over a three-year period or in points as determined by the DMV. The classes are $20 for AARP members and $25 for others.
